This is my another blog post of vRealize Suite series, In this series I am going to show you how to deploy vRealize Log Insight in an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide. Lets Start..
First of all You will need to download vRealize software, from Vmware Software Manager or from your my.vmware.com account. If you have a Partner Central account you should also have access to time-limited evaluation license keys for most VMware products.
Step 1. Login to your vSphere Web Client and Select your vCenter Server and Right click on your Cluster and select option “Deploy OVF Template”
Step 2. Provide the URL for the OVF File else Locate the Folder for your OVF Template via clicking browse
Step 3. Verify the OVF template details and click Next
Step 4. Accept the EULA and click Next.
Step 5. Provide a display name for the Log Insight VM and select the folder for the VM object. Click Next.
Step 6. select a configuration for the virtual appliance. Choices made here will determine such things as the number of vCPUs and the vRAM size. For a production deployment you should refer to the official sizing guidelines Here. but for our purposes we will choose the Extra Small Configuration ( 2vCPUs, 4 GB vRAM). Click Next.
Step 7. Select a datastore for the virtual appliance. Here I have chosen a datastore configured on an SAN device and selected the thin provisioning option. In a production environment, you would probably want to thick provision. Click Next.
Step 8. Select a network for the virtual appliance to attach to and click Next.
Step 9. Provide hostname and IP details. Note that you can also use DHCP. and set the root password Click Next.
Step 10.Review your settings, check the Power on after deployment option, and click Finish.
Step 11. Finally you are done. When the console of the vRealize Operations Manager, it shows the blue welcome screen then you are good to start configuring the appliance.
Step 12. Open a browser with the IP address or FQDN of the vRealize Log insight appliance. After accepting the exception You will be presented with option for the initial setup.click Next
Step 13. In my lab environment I am choosing the New Deployment. For production environments it depends to choose Either the New or Expand an Existing option.
Step 14. it will start your deployment.Wait for the next page
Step 15. Enter your meail id and password to manage it in future.
Step 16. Enter the License key and click on ADD License Key
Step 17. After clicking Add license key it will display the status, Expiration date type and Quantity of the license.
Step 18. Enter the desired email system notification to address where you want to receive your emails.click Save and Continue
Step 19. Time configuration for your environment need to be entered. i.e. NTP Servers and test it with save and Continue button. you can also configure it later so Skip option is also available.
Step 20. you Can also use you Esxi hosts to use the time sync option.
Step 21. Enter your SMTP Server info to facilitate your vrealize appliance to send the alert email.
Step 22. After clicking save And continue your setup Basic configuration is completed.
Step 23. Now you can integrate your vSphere in your environment.Click on Configure vSphere Integration
Step 24. it will redirect you to the vCenter Server configuration page. (i.e. hostname for your vCenter, username and password) and test connection and click on Save.
Step 25 .Once you click Save your vRealize appliance will start configuring vCenter in to it.
Step 26. Once configuration completed. it will prompt you.
Step 27. Once you click OK . it will redirect you to the Dashboard for your vCenter environment. You can see the Events, Warning, Error on here wih the events over time.
Now you can watch and monitor your vSphere Environment from here and it will also alert you with the alert email services. Hope you enjoyed reading this article. Keep reading for the other interesting stuff soon…
